At 11pm on Friday night, the United Kingdom left the European Union after some 47 years. This marked the delivery of the vote taken in the Referendum and the start of a new phase of our history.
I hope that this brings to an end the personal nature of comments and brings together the country in what I hope will be a successful future. There is still much to be decided and agreed but it is necessary to work through these issues with consideration and in a spirit of respect, reconciliation and hope.
There is significant potential for us around the world. But I also hope that the EU will help build a new, lasting partnership based on free trade and co-operation.
We have to heal our nation and move forward together to build a more prosperous future for all.
