John met with Patricia Marquis, Director of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) to discuss bursaries for nurses and other related issues on the RCN 'Fund our Future' campaign.
Following good discussion John said that he was happy to look to support the campaign and committed to reading the full report on the research that the RCN has done. The report, which includes independent economic modelling aims to set out cost effective options to support nursing students and grow the nursing workforce in England.
The RCN has welcomed the commitment in the recent Spending Round to give every nurse working in NHS hospitals, community settings and GP surgeries in England a personal training budget to support their learning and development but has said that more help will be needed in the future to equip nursing staff with the skills and knowledge they need to help transform services for patients.
