On Back British Farming day John was proud to wear the special wool and wheatsheaf lapel pin around Westminster as the NFU had asked.
John said: Farming is hugely important in the UK not only for food production but also for the stewardship of our countryside. We are reminded of this daily through the countryside in the Henley Constituency where farming is important. I enjoy my meetings with local farmers which give me a better understanding of their concerns and of the wider issues that are often raised.
As well as growing and producing high quality, healthy food that we all eat and enjoy, and being custodians of our beautiful countryside, British Farmers are leaders in animal welfare and champions of renewable energy. What’s more, the UK food and farming industry makes a fundamental contribution to our economy, providing millions of jobs and supporting rural and urban communities up and down the country.
