As from today Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust is operating one of 32 new NHS Vaccine Centres that will start delivering Covid vaccinations. This is part of the programme to accelerate the immunisation programme. The Kassam Stadium is the first large scale centre that Oxford Health is setting up as lead provider for public vaccination centres in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire West.
John said: “The roll out of the COVID-19 vaccines is critical and the quicker we are able to get people vaccinated the better. It is good news that we now have one of these vaccine centres local to us. This centre will be in addition to the existing work already in place across the Constituency. I do hope that people will come forward for vaccination when called.”
The new vaccination centre will start by vaccinating priority front line patient-facing staff who work on community and mental health wards as well as in the community via services like district nursing. From 1st February the centre will work to the national priority programme as set out by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation and when fully up and running will be able to vaccinate 8000 people every week.
People will be vaccinated by invitation only and should wait to be called via the national booking system. It is important to note that people cannot get vaccinated by just turning up.
Attending one of these large vaccination centres gives a further opportunities in the roll out. Even if someone receives a letter inviting them to go to the centre they can wait to attend a hospital or GP service if they prefer. People, such as care home residents who are unable to travel to vaccine centres, hospitals or GP-led sites, are already being vaccinated at home.
