Council of Europe: Ending violence against children

I gave a speech in this debate to empathise with the calls to protect children. I pointed to the importance of the Lanzarote Convention the first international legal instrument aiming to prevent, criminalise and combat all forms of sexual abuse and exploitation of children. I also pointed out the serious threats that migrant children face on their way to Europe.

It is important that we have good relations with the wider Europe. That can be best achieved through the Council of Europe – a non-EU organisation set up after the Second World War to oversee democracy, the rule of law and human rights in Europe.

John's farewell message

As many people will know, I announced in April 2023 that I would stand down as your MP at the next General Election. My decision was taking on the basis of my age and that I did not want to be an MP into my 70s.
